Watercolor Wings Birthday Card

I saw this card on Instagram and decided to CAS (Copy And Share) it using my Stampin Up stash. This card (I believe) was on the MFT Stamps Instagram site. 


I ended up adding the body of the butterfly after I finished filming the video. I thought it needed something "more." I have never heat embossed on window card sheets before and was surprised it held up. But; then again, it is a small image and it didn't take that long to melt the embossing powder. If you noticed, I also embossed the antenna. I used a VersaMark pen to "draw" on the stamped image of it. (I can't leave well enough alone. LOL)

Watercoloring with Embossing Folder and Ink

Hi Fellow Crafters! I have been M.I.A. because my husband and I took a 12 day trip with our three kids. I am exhausted!!! It was NOT a vacation at all! However it was fun and educational. But, if you ask my four year old what her favorite part of the trip was, she will tell you all about the deers and not the monuments or musems with visited. Here is a pic of me with a Stampin Up catalog in front of the White House. My wonderful SU group has a little challenge going on to take selfies this summer during our vacations or even staycations.

 Back to crafting. Here is a card I made by making my own background. I used Textured embossing folder and ink to get this look. Below is a video tutorial demonstrating this process.

"Smooshed" ink with an embossing folder

This card is an entry for a little challenge within my SU group. To make the background:

  • I smeared 3 different color ink to achieve an ombre effect onto an textured impression (embossing) folder, and sprayed water onto it. (I used a brayer to smooth out the ink and a Stampin' Spritz for to spray the water.) 
  • Then, I placed my watercolor paper facedown on the ink side. Close the embossing folder and pat it down gently. 
  • To get a softer look, I used a Stampin' Spritz to spray more water onto the panel. Let it dry for about 30 minutes or use a heat tool to speed the drying process.
